Parents, grandparents, and carers are being asked to give feedback on Stockport’s plans to make the centre family-friendly through new learning and discovery space.
The new project hopes to create a place where families across generations can spend time exploring together, with a designated Family Zone.
The Council has secured £14.5m from the government’s Future High Street Scheme for the project.
Cllr David Meller, cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said: ‘We want to encourage people to rediscover the town centre and what better way than to take part in a free fun family activity. We want children and young people to find the city centre welcoming and safe.
‘The more families we speak with, the better we can reflect their needs and wants in the design of Stockroom. We want people to tell us what activities and services they would most like to see in Stockroom, and I would encourage everyone to fill in the online survey.’
The Council have multiple ideas for potential uses of the new family space, ranging from a sensory room to new spaces for school music and theatre performances, and are open to hearing new ideas from residents, with a focus on providing facilities that help improve children’s development, health, and access to opportunities.
The engagement team will be capturing responses from passers-by over the next two weekends.
In related news, local groups with new or existing projects to bring people from different backgrounds together have been selected to receive funding from Blackburn with Darwen’s ‘Our Community, Our Future’ programme.
