Construction begins on Gynsill Grange in Anstey as councillors raise concerns over traffic safety.
Building has commenced on a 40-home development in Leicestershire despite concerns about road safety. Allison Homes East Midlands is leading on the scheme, which is situated in Gynsill Lane.
Local representatives are warning that traffic pressures are already stretching existing infrastructure. Councillor Deborah Taylor told LeicestershireLive: ‘One of the most pressing issues continues to be the level of traffic and road safety along Gynsill Lane.
‘The road has already experience a significant increase in traffic in recent years due to surrounding developments, with ongoing concerns about accidents, near misses, and challenging road conditions, including blind bends and multiple junctions.
‘I remain particularly disappointed that the developer did not agree to install a pedestrian crossing to safely connect this development to Anstey.
‘This is something that could have been delivered at relatively low cost while work was already taking place on site.’
The project is comprised of a mix of one, two, three, four and five-bedroom homes, forming part of the wider housing expansion in the area.
As part of the agreement, the developer has agreed to make financial contributions to local services, including improvements to outdoor facilities, secondary education, healthcare, allotments, waste management, travel, public transport and Anstey Library.
Karl Edwards, managing director of Allison Homes East Midlands, said: ‘We are very proud to have broken ground at our Gynsill Grange development and to be bringing a new selection of high-specification, energy efficient homes to the county.
‘Ever since launching our East Midlands region in 2024, we’ve had a real commitment to Leicestershire and are excited to be further contributing to the community.
‘Now work is under way on these brand-new homes, we’re looking forward to seeing the development take shape and grow into a thriving, sustainable community.’
