Waltham Forest Council has now taken possession of the entire EMD Cinema building, as work continues to restore the venue to its former glory. The Mirth, Marvel and Maud pub occupied the site of the foyer and bar of the old cinema until last month. The council has now acquired the entire building, which means work can begin in these areas, including making sure the new venue is accessible. The original 2,697 seat Granada Cinema was built in 1930 and is known for hosting some of the biggest names in the entertainment world. The new venue will include a 950-seat theatre, bar and restaurant, community space, and more. It will be managed by Soho Theatre, a renowned charity and social enterprise who have brought some of London’s most innovative and high-profile theatre, comedy and cabaret acts to its acclaimed central London venue.
