A £15.4m scheme to regenerate Northallerton town centre will be discussed by Hambleton district councillors next week. The council’s cabinet will be asked on 7 July to give the green light to a bid for central government cash which would transform the market town. Northallerton is one of 101 towns across the UK to go forward for Future High Streets Funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). The local authority was asked to develop a business case to access cash from the fund – which is looking for schemes that provide transformational change and make towns fit for the future. The council is applying for £7.1m from the government to aims to create a better night time economy, more cultural and leisure opportunities and uncovering its hidden heritage.
