Gumtree launches competition to help small businesses

The website Gumtree UK has launched a new competition to help give small a boost as the country recovers from lockdown.

The Small Business Blast-Off competition will give small businesses a chance to win a range of prizes, including £10K in cash, useful equipment to help businesses operate safely and advertising support from Gumtree worth 3K.

To enter, business owners need to record a two minute video explaining how they have coped over the past year and what plans the prizes will help them realise in 2021.

The judging panel will be looking for examples of community spirit, resourcefulness and innovation. Business owners can find out how to enter the competition here.

It has been launched in partnership with Tide and supported by O2 BusinessBuilder.ai and SumUp, will help SMEs zoom out of lockdown and make the most of new opportunities as lockdown measures are eased.

‘This past year has been exceptionally difficult for many entrepreneurs and small business owners,’ said Gumtree UK’s chief marketing officer, Hannah Rouch.

‘We have seen some sectors disproportionately affected by lockdown restrictions and many SMEs are at the stage now where they need a boost to help them get back on their feet and in front of customers again.

‘Our aim with this competition is to do just that. We know from the many small businesses that rely on Gumtree to reach people in their local area, just how many have hustled and embraced their entrepreneurialism to keep their business going despite the circumstances. We want to celebrate them and arm them with a little extra support to kick-start the summer and take advantage of our journey out of lockdown.’
