Council unveils ambitious masterplan for city centre to guide investment, development and decision-making in coming years.
Doncaster City Council has shared its new masterplan for the city centre, identifying aspirations, priorities and development opportunities.
This follows the original 2016 masterplan, which provided the underlying structure for the successful delivery of more than 50 regeneration projects across the city centre, including refurbishments to the Wool Market, Corn Exchange, Doncaster Station and the Civic and Cultural Quarter.
The refreshed masterplan will help to inform future funding bids, investment decisions and partnership working. That includes the continued development of the waterfront site, enhancement of the markets and retail core, investment in green spaces, improved city centre connections and regeneration of Waterdale.
The plan also aims to strengthen community cohesion by creating welcoming spaces, supporting civic pride and encouraging people from all communities to come together and enjoy the city centre.
Of course, while the masterplan sets out an overall vision, delivery of individual projects will be subject to further development, business cases, funding availability and necessary approvals.
The new masterplan follows Doncaster’s city centre strategy and is in part a response to feedback from more than 8,000 residents who took part in the ‘Big City Conversation’ initiative, as well as ongoing engagement with the City Centre Board led by the private sector.
The council invites residents, businesses, community organisations and stakeholders to attend a public drop-in at the Corn Exchange from 3.30 to 7 pm on Thursday, September 24, 2026. There they can view the proposals, speak directly with council officers find out more about the future plans for the city centre. No booking is required, and further drop-in events will be announced in due course.

Significant progress has been made in recent years, but there is lots more to do!
