Tower Hamlets Council has given the green light to an affordable housing scheme at Stroudley Walk in Poplar.
The scheme to bring forward 274 homes, with a 51% affordable housing provision will be delivered by Muse Developments and leading housing provider, Poplar HARCA.
The approved plans, designed by Regeneration Masterplan Architects (RMA), focus heavily on creating a safe and thriving, vibrant neighbourhood, and include a new pocket park and part-pedestrianised street, with business and retail spaces for the Poplar community to enjoy.
‘Our development at Stroudley Walk with Poplar HARCA, provides a real opportunity for us to provide much-needed affordable homes coupled with extensive public realm upgrades, to create a diverse and safe place for all,’ said senior development manager, Rebecca Lewis.
‘This site in Bromley-by-Bow has had a lengthy history and has unfortunately been neglected over the years. However, it can now look forward to a truly bright future with a scheme that brings investment, new homes and business opportunities right into the heart of the community.’
Paul Dooley, director of development and regeneration at Poplar HARCA, added: ‘The changes brought about through the redevelopment of Stroudley Walk will transform this somewhat forgotten part of Bromley-by-Bow. Stroudley Walk has a unique and rich history, having close links to both the suffragette movement and Mahatmas Ghandi.
‘We look forward to making a big, positive difference to many local families lives by building new, affordable homes and creating safe and welcoming community space in this very special part of east London.’
