Tamworth council housing scheme complete

A £19m regeneration project to build 140 brand new homes across two council estates in Tamworth is now complete.

Appointed developer, energy and regeneration specialist ENGIE, has handed the new 44-home estate at Kerria over to the borough council this month, ready to provide modern, warm and affordable homes for more families.

It follows the completion of the 96-home new estate at Tinkers Green in December last year and marks the end of the huge project to redevelop old and outdated homes across the two sites.

The Kerria redevelopment has seen 38 maisonettes replaced with 44 new homes, made up of eight one-bedroom apartments, four two-bedroom apartments, 24 two-bedroom houses and eight three-bedroom houses, plus a retail facility.

Its new street names are Primrose Drive and Bluebell Court, with new homes also added to the existing street Robinia.

At the Tinkers Green site, 86 maisonettes were replaced with 96 modern family homes. These are made up of 30 two-bedroom apartments, 44 two-bedroom houses, 19 three bedroom-houses and three four-bedroom houses.

‘The handing over of the redeveloped Kerria marks the end of a massive regeneration project in two areas of Tamworth,’ said cabinet member for neighbourhoods, Cllr Michelle Cook.

‘The end result is exactly what we set out to achieve and I am really proud to see a beautifully designed estate that will provide good quality social housing that is fit for the 21^st century and is now somewhere that residents will be proud to call home.’
