Pet-friendly homes launched in Wembley

Animal-loving renters have long had to suffer landlords who insist on a no pet clause, with animal shelters now struggling to cope with demand as tenants are forced to give up their four-legged companions.

Landsby in Wembley Park is bucking the trend and promising a haven for cat and dog owners throughout its 295 apartments, which are available from September.

Tipi, who are managing the properties, say their pet-friendly scheme will see prospective pets interviewed by the Tipi Team, which includes one four-legged member in the form of a Cavapoo called Frankie.

Frankie will vet ‘paw-spective’ dogs based on how they interact and socialise. Those that can follow basic instructions and are well mannered will make the grade, as will house cats.

Permitted pets will be issued with unique, numbered Tipi collar tags, to help identify them to the concierge as residents and should they go astray.

Pets will be photographed with their tags and have their own ‘pass-pawt’ style profile whilst the Residents Team will mark special dates, such as their birthdays and World Animal Day on 4 October.

A purpose-built dog run, complete with water supply for washing and seating for pet owners is currently under consideration as are pet grooming days, a Halloween ‘best dressed pet’ competition, collar-making sessions in collaboration with local artists, dog agility events and puppy training classes.

Rajesh Shah, Managing Director, Tipi said: ‘Animal welfare will be a key consideration for Tipi’s pets. As part of the vetting process, we will liaise with the owners to ensure that pets are healthy and check that their vaccination records are completely up to date. We can also introduce them to a local vet if they are new to the area or to pet ownership.’

In February, the Labour Party announced they want to strengthen the rights of tenants to keep a pet in their properties as part of a package of proposed animal welfare measures.
