New housing estate escalates economic growth of Tiverton

A new housing estate is set to be constructed in Tiverton and as a result more than £10m is being invested in highways and education across the small English town.

Announced this week, the developer behind the new estate – Redrow South West, which has plans to build 122 new homes that will consist of both private and affordable housing – has confirmed that it is contributing over £10m to the region in Section 106 agreements.

Under Section 106 agreements of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, contributions can be sought from developers towards the cost of providing community and social infrastructure, the need for which has arisen as a result of a new development taking place.

The investment includes several contributions, with £3.6m to support local schools and education services, and over £921,000 towards creating much-needed highway improvements, including traffic calming measures. The contribution also includes over £800,000 towards improving and creating new transport and cycle infrastructure around the town centre.

Alongside this, the housebuilder will also be contributing £1.3m to create a new community-sports centre.

Sian Smith, Sales Director at Redrow South West, said: ‘We are thrilled to be supporting the community of Tiverton and ensuring the sustainability of our already popular Blundell’s Grange development while bringing much-needed homes in the region. Our commitment to creating thriving communities will not only benefit the local area, but also our new residents, who we are excited to see start moving into this development when it opens later this year.

‘With investment in local education providers, highway improvements, as well as a new community sports centre, we are excited to be expanding our portfolio in the area to create high quality, new homes in Tiverton and providing this investment into the Devon region.

‘This development is already proving popular with a number of reservations already being taken and we are anticipating a show home launch in just a few months’ time. We’d encourage anyone looking to purchase a home at Blundell’s Grange to register their interest at our neighbouring development, St Michael’s Meadow, as soon as possible.’
