The government must ensure that all communities, not just new developments, benefit from the positives of living in close proximity to nature, according to the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).  While the RTPI has welcomed plans by the government to ensure that all new developments have access to ‘tree-lined streets,’ they have pointed out that all people, no matter where they live, should benefit from the aesthetic joys, positive environmental impact, air quality improvement and wellbeing bonus of trees A recent survey conducted by the RTPI found that planners overwhelmingly support a nationwide push for tree planting in both new developments and existing communities. 96% of respondents said that trees are an important part of their work and enable them to create healthy, attractive, environmentally and climatically sustainable places.
