Those who read the New Start blog will be interested to hear that Dolphin Square Foundation recently announced the results of its second annual grant competition.
In effect, this will mean that housing organisations and charities are set to benefit to the tune of over £400,000. In response to the economic climate and the risk that the residents of Westminster will be in greater housing need over the next year, the board of the Foundation boosted the pot of funding available to provide more help for charities and projects working on the ground.
The Foundation’s fresh funding round will support a diverse range of schemes and will be directed to reduce the incidence and impact of homelessness, improve energy efficiency and provide advice to those in housing need.
For example Crisis UK has received £54,050 for Year Two of the ‘Westminster Smart Move’ scheme to provide assistance to single homeless people.
The fact that the Dolphin Square Foundation is looking to develop innovative solutions to housing problems could herald a changing role for organisations who invest in the social housing sector.
The continued twin problems of the current economic climate and acute strain on the housing market mean that the Foundation will continue to extend its support and develop new and distinct initiatives in line with its charitable goals
Looking ahead, the Foundation is working to respond effectively to the current challenges in the housing market in the current economic straits.
So, to tackle these problems it is examining how its resources can be used to bring forward much needed rental properties, utilise unsold new build housing and empty homes for those in housing need.
Thus, the Foundation is looking forward to the prospect of doing some truly ground-breaking work, with its partners, to help solve Westminster’s housing problems. Watch this space.
