Ed Miliband’s ringing endorsement of the local government innovation task force this week has capped a slew of commitments and half promises from all parties in recent days to move power outwards and downwards, from Whitehall to town hall, over the course of the next parliament. For this week, let’s hope not for this week only, local is the new black.
