An exciting property development will soon be coming to Cheshire West and Chester, as 99 net zero homes will be constructed on a brownfield site in Winsford.
Energy and regeneration specialist Equans will be leading the project, with planning consent to demolish and redevelop a former depot on Clough Lane.
Affordable housing provider Torus will also be working on the development, which will focus on delivering sustainable homes which live up to the Future Homes Standard.
This means the buildings won’t be connected to the gas network and will be installed with insulation and low-carbon heating, such as an air source heat pump and solar panels, so the homes are zero-carbon.
A new footpath and cycle path will also be created to provide access to Weaver Street to encourage active travel and enhance connectivity of the housing development.
Steven Gregory, Regional Director at Equans, said: ‘We’re delighted that planning permission has been awarded for this exciting scheme as it’s our first 100% in-use zero carbon homes project. It’s a pleasure to see our good work continue in Winsford and surrounding areas and to also support the Council in meeting their sustainability targets.
‘All stakeholders have worked collaboratively and enthusiastically to move this scheme on and I can’t wait for it to get underway.’
The brownfield site is expected to be demolished on March 6th and construction will be completed in May 2025.
Equans is already working on two other low-carbon projects in the area, with 138 two, three and four-bedroom homes to be built on Wharton Green and improvements to local highway infrastructure and community space.
More low-carbon and zero-carbon housebuilding projects are being launched in the lead up to the Future Homes Standard coming into place in 2025.
This will require new homes to release 75-80% less carbon than current standards allow, while fossil fuel heating will be banned to encourage a transition to low-carbon heating through heat pumps and heat networks.
