2009: it can only get better

I’m writing this on officially the most stressful day of the year, Monday January 5 (a psychologist says so, so it must be true) but since it will be posted on Tuesday 6 all of the stress levels should already be reducing. That’s the theory anyway. But it’s clear that as we enter 2009 we will all face many challenges, and readers of New Start will find that these challenges are not only personal but include all the challenges that the current economic and funding climate places on the communities we’re working in.

With the continued doom and gloom and the terrible daily news of yet more redundancies and struggling businesses, it’s easy to overlook the many positive stories coming out of the regeneration and economic development sector. Every year all of us at New Start meet numerous people who are succeeding in making their communities better, stronger, and more equal.

Every year we’re inspired by many of the stories of our readers. And every year we try to share the best practice, the success stories, and the learning from regeneration that works to help readers in their work.

Readers will have the new-look New Start magazine on their desks by now (if you don’t, you can download it here: www.newstartmag.co.uk/files/jan-free.pdf)*.

We hope you like it – as we enter our 10th year we’ve changed New Start and have worked really hard to develop the magazine to bring readers even more of what they value most. So our message as we enter a year that we all know is going to be a challenge to us all is: please let us know your good news and success stories. Share your positive tales with our readers and use the comment and blog sections on this new-look website to communicate with the regeneration sector and to share your own good news and best practice. I hope you like the new-look New Start – please do let me know your thoughts – and all of our team wish you a successful 2009.

*it’s quite a large download, so it might take a while!
