Today Building Magazine are set to host the webinar ‘Preparing for Awaab’s Law – tackling damp and mould with technology’.
Due to be presented by Ben Wallbank, BIM strategy & partnerships manager at Trimble, and Michael Parrett, founder of Michael Parrett Associates, the webinar is free to join and can be accessed via this link.
News of the event, which is set to last around an hour, comes as Awaab’s Law is due to be implemented across the social rented sector from 27th October 2025.
The legislation, first proposed by the government in February 2023, came after two-year-old Awaab Ishak tragically lost his life in December 2020, as a result of living in a damp and mouldy flat in Rochdale.
In the webinar experts are due to discuss the following:
- The expected requirements for inspection and repair response times
- Best practice for diagnosing root causes of damp and mould
- How digital tools can help to streamline compliance through the use of real-time data, mobile reporting and 360-degree photographic evidence capture
- Case studies of proactive housing providers already tackling the challenge
Arguably, this webinar couldn’t have come at a better time. Once the legislation is applied across the sector, social landlords across the UK will be required to address emergencies within 24 hours and resolve other hazards within 15 days. With such strict timeframes, it’s likely they’ll be seeking the most efficient solutions to tackle these issues.
The webinar is due to commence at 11AM GMT.
