Help shape the future of our borough - from idea to delivery, you'll lead projects that make our neighbourhoods greener, fairer and better places to live

Help shape the future of our borough - from idea to delivery, you'll lead projects that make our neighbourhoods greener, fairer and better places to live

Working as a Senior Planning Project Officer means turning big ideas into real improvements for our communities. You'll play a key role in bringing projects to life - from revitalising town centres and unlocking new housing to creating places that residents are proud to call home. This is about visible, lasting change, built through collaboration and care.

Working Style:

You'll be based in the Borough for 3 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.

What you'll be doing:

You'll lead on projects that support the Council's vision for a thriving, sustainable borough, with a particular focus on improving the vitality of our town centres. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same - you might be developing a detailed project plan one moment, then meeting residents or businesses the next to ensure their voices shape our work.

You'll take ownership of your projects from start to finish, managing budgets, seeking external funding opportunities and removing barriers to delivery. You'll also work on major sites and regeneration schemes, exploring innovative ways to turn planning ambitions into action.

Your work will span all areas of placeshaping - from drafting design guidelines and engagement strategies to supporting housing and infrastructure delivery. Collaboration is key: you'll build strong relationships across the Council and beyond, working with partners, developers and local communities to make progress happen.

This is a role for someone who's proactive, people-focused and not afraid to get stuck in - someone who can find solutions, keep things moving and make a real difference to how our neighbourhoods grow and thrive.

What you'll bring

You'll be highly motivated, organised and ready to take ownership of projects that shape the borough's future. You'll bring experience in planning, regeneration, or urban design, with a solid understanding of project management - particularly for larger or complex schemes.

You'll be confident engaging with residents, councillors and partners, with the ability to build trust and bring people together around shared goals. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential, as is the ability to navigate differing views and find consensus.

You'll have hands-on experience in community engagement, especially in housing or placeshaping projects, and will know how to turn feedback into tangible outcomes. You'll also be educated to degree level in a relevant field (or have equivalent experience), with strong IT and report-writing skills. Above all, you'll have a can-do attitude and a genuine passion for making a difference.

Your work will be visible and rewarding - many of our projects are recognised at industry level - and you'll see first-hand the difference your efforts make to our neighbourhoods. You'll also enjoy flexible working, spending around three days a week in the borough, balancing collaboration with independence.
