Cambridgeshire County Council’s Place and Economy Directorate delivers services across areas such as transport, new infrastructure, roads, and the environment. It aims to manage and deliver the growth and development of sustainable communities, meet the challenges of climate change and enhance the natural environment.

The Road Safety team sits within the Transport Strategy and Network Management Service and is looking to develop a centre of excellence within the Council across road safety disciplines. The Council has recently adopted a Vision Zero strategy aiming to eliminate road deaths and severe injuries by 2040 and is looking for people who share this ambitious vision to join the team leading on the Safe Road and Safe Road User aspects of this strategy.

As Road Safety Manager, you will lead the Council’s delivery within the Vision Zero Partnership, ensuring appropriate engagement of relevant team expertise across all workstreams, and leadership for the delivery of projects within the Safe Roads and Safe Road Users workstreams. You will also oversee the Council’s collision investigation work and respective liaison with the Police, Coroner and any other relevant parties. The role requires a strong ability to bring together a wide range of stakeholder groups including Parish and District Councils, resident and campaign groups and businesses and will lead the multi-disciplinary team which will link with other services across the Council in order to deliver services.

This is a demanding but rewarding role in a fast-paced environment, suited to someone with expert knowledge of current and emerging best practice in road safety and experience of managing a multi-disciplinary team. You will have strong programme management and communication skills and be able to demonstrate your ability to problem-solve and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders and partners from the community and other public and private organisations.

The service operates flexibly, with opportunities to work remotely as well as a central base in Huntingdon but the ability to travel to different locations across the county is essential.

The Council offers a variety of benefits including the Local Government Pension Scheme, a generous annual leave allowance with the option to buy additional leave, flexible working, opportunities for learning and development up to degree level and the prospect of playing a key role in delivering an ambitious road safety strategy that will benefit all road users in Cambridgeshire.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Monday 26th September 2022.

Interviews will be held virtually on Wednesday 5th October 2022.
