We are looking to appoint to the role of Principal Development Planning Officer within the Planning and Development department. You will be working for one of the country’s largest planning authorities within a can-do Directorate that combines a range of service areas; all co-located in modern offices in the city centre.
You will have the opportunity to help deliver the City Council’s growth plans, which include the development of more than 50,000 new homes, town centre regeneration with major retail, office and leisure space, delivery of high profile projects such as the Common Wealth Games; supporting the award winning Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust – our housing delivery vehicle that has built over 3000 new homes since 2009, and £4bn of infrastructure projects including the extension of the Midland Metro tram system and the High Speed 2 railway network.

Working 36.5 hours per week
You will be working in a team of professional staff delivering a range of initiatives including preparing and delivering statutory and non-statutory frameworks and plans. You will work closely with public sector, private sector, and community partners to shape and bring forward development, including securing funding and creating the conditions for growth to support the ongoing transformation of the city. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills as a planner and leader, with a varied and exciting workload. You will need to hold a degree in planning or related discipline, be a Corporate Member of the RTPI and have substantial relevant experience.
