Role summary…

The role involves investigating, through site visits and detailed research, alleged breaches of planning control and deciding how to proceed in each case in order to seek to resolve breaches through the use of a range of enforcement tools and communication, liaison and negotiation skills and where necessary preparing reports and taking formal enforcement action to remedy breaches of planning control where appropriate, as well as representing the council at appeals and acting as an expert witness.

The post holder will work with colleagues to build relationships and understanding across the Service and the wider Council; supporting each other to deliver excellent cross-service communication and corporate priorities as well as liaising with statutory bodies and other organisations.

Duties and responsibilities…

Receive, investigate, and prepare reports with recommendations on allegations of breaches of planning control. Undertake systematic and periodic reviews of approvals to monitor compliance and identify unauthorised developments. Serving notices and summonses in association with unauthorised operations. Acting as an expert witness on behalf of the Council. To undertake surveys on specific matters with a view to the development of potential policy initiatives.   

What you will bring…

Experience / Qualifications:

5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) including Maths and English Knowledge of planning legislation. Working in a customer environment or with members of the public or organisations Good precise evidence gathering and record keeping. Communication and liaising skills. Presentation skills. IT skills. Flexible approach to work tasks. Customer responsiveness and care. Able to relate well to people. Drive to progress cases in a timely manner. Working proactively
