An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Council's Housing Solutions Service to provide an effective and professional person-centred approach to the prevention and relief of homelessness. Sandwell Council is committed to supporting vulnerable individuals and families in our community, and we are looking for a dedicated Homelessness Prevention Officer to help us achieve this mission.

As a Homelessness Prevention Officer, you will undertake a holistic approach to casework, including the assessment and investigation of homelessness in line with the Council's statutory duties. This role operates in a challenging and high-pressured environment, where you will work closely with vulnerable families and customers with varying needs. Key responsibilities – 

• Conduct assessments and investigations to determine homelessness status.
• Develop and implement person-centred homelessness prevention plans.
• Collaborate with partner agencies and stakeholders to provide comprehensive support.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records.
• Ensure compliance with the Homelessness Reduction Act.
• Provide advice and guidance to individuals and families at risk of homelessness.
• Work in partnership with colleagues to deliver effective housing solutions.

Requirements – 

• Minimum qualification of GCSE Maths and English Level 2 or equivalent.
• Knowledge of homelessness and related issues.
• Familiarity with the Homelessness Reduction Act.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
• Empathy and a person-centred approach to casework.
