We are looking for an inspirational and strategic leader ready to shape and manage the future of regeneration services across North Yorkshire. This new role as Head of Regeneration for the North and Eastern region of North Yorkshire represents a fantastic opportunity to join the Economic Development, Regeneration, Tourism and Skills leadership team and to lead from the front.

North Yorkshire Council is at a pivotal point in our history. In April 2023 the eight councils that served North Yorkshire unified to create geographically the largest council and third largest unitary within the country. Given that we are at the inception of our new council this role provides an unrivalled career opportunity for an ambitious and experienced leader to work with the Assistant Director Economic Development, Regeneration, Tourism and Skills and the wider team.  We are looking for a strategic leader who will play a key role in the integration of teams across all eight former councils, who will actively support this significant transformation programme and who will inspire colleagues along the way.

The Regeneration Service will play a fundamental role in delivering the new council plans. We are ambitious – we are seeking to support economically sustainable growth across the region, to make sure North Yorkshire is well connected and that it is seen as an attractive place to live, work and visit, and that health inequalities are addressed.

To underpin this, we are at the same time looking to ensure North Yorkshire receives its’ fair share of resources to deliver on these ambitions as part of a devolution deal, so that people and communities can achieve their full potential. This new role is integral to helping us achieve all of this.

As Head of Regeneration, you and your services have a significant role to play in ensuring that we realise our ambition of also being the most local. We are looking for a leader who will really get under the skin of the region, someone who is curious to get to know its’ many assets and its’ far reaching communities – and who will understand what is important to them. In this role you will forge key relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure that the redevelopment and investment is targeted effectively so that it can realise the maximum potential.

We have a £60m Towns Funds capital programmes to deliver with an additional £20m Levelling-Up funding – with the prospect of more funding to come as we tap into the potential of devolution deals, we hope will be afforded to us. By working closely with the new Mayoral Combined Authority due to be established later this year we can seek to harness more funding and maximise the opportunities this will create for the region.

This is a high profile role with excellent career potential. You will provide professional and strategic advice on regeneration and associated disciplines to the Assistant Director, Director, Members and other senior leaders of the council. As a shared corporate leader, you will also play a strategic role on the wider Economic Development, Regeneration, Tourism and Skills leadership team acting as a proactive leader for change and continuous improvement in line with a shared ‘one team’ vision.
