Gateshead Council’s Economic and Housing Growth Service is responsible for leading the Council’s efforts to create a strong, sustainable and inclusive economy. It works across the policy areas that drive growth – the business environment, labour market, housing market and physical infrastructure – with the aim of boosting prosperity and reducing economic inequality.
The Service works with a wide range of partners and stakeholders to generate and secure opportunities for the benefit of local residents to access employment, support new business starts and enhance business growth in the borough; this can often entail delivering grant funded and/ or commercially driven contracts.
An opportunity has now arisen for a focused, results driven individual to join the Service as an Enterprise Advisor.
The role will be is based within the Enterprise Services Team and will contribute to delivering the Enterprise Support in the North East 2 project to stimulate and raise enterprise activities across the NELEP geography. The project is managed by North East Enterprise Agency Ltd and is part funded by European Regional Development Fund.
The opportunity is offered on a fixed term basis to 31 March 2021.
The role will involve:
Determining the suitability of residents for start-up support and setting SMART targets for residents move into sustainable self- employment (or set up a social enterprise) and providing 1-2-1 support and/or group basis, organise events/training and deliver a range of customised activities to meet contractual requirements.
You must have knowledge of SME business management and operations, local economic conditions and business planning.
You will have experience of working to targets; delivering enterprise support and / or interventions to help people start a business; data recording, collection and interpretation; working on own initiative or collaboratively with others to deliver results.
You will have NVQ level 4 Information Advice and Guidance or prepared to work towards it and have a relevant degree/ professional qualification or equivalent experience.
