Website North Northamptonshire & West Northamptonshire

Directors of Finance

Directors for Legal & Democratic Services:

Shape the future.

Northamptonshire has a lot to offer – a great history, thriving industries and beautiful towns. And with lots of handy transport links, we’re also an easily accessible county, situated right in the heart of England. We’re proud of our heritage, but we’re excited about our future. It’s an exciting time, as we’re now creating two brand-new unitary councils in both the North and West of Northants. As Director of Legal & Democratic Services in one of the new authorities you’ll be pivotal in shaping the future of the service and the organisation.

You’ll play a critical role in leading our legal and democratic endeavours with a positive and proactive approach. As the designated Monitoring Officer, you will provide expert legal advice to members, senior leaders and management teams, ensuring that governance arrangements are legally compliant and fit for purpose; and that all decisions taken by Councillors and Officers are lawful.  You’ll also need to stay well-versed in wider changes in politics and legislation, to help you devise ways to establish flexible responses with the community. So that means you’ll work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, making you a key change maker in our council.

For this role, you’ll need to be legally qualified, able to lead managers of all levels. You’ll have a high level of political awareness, financial planning and experience of handling transformative large-scale projects. Understanding issues that face Central Government and the possible impact on Local Government structures is essential. We’ll welcome your professionalism and determination, but you’ll also need to think creatively, have exceptional communication skills and show inspirational leadership.

We’ve got the chance to improve what’s gone before. We’re not afraid to make bold

decisions and do things differently. So, when you join, you’ll be an advocate for the council and transform the lives of our residents. And you’ll shape our future.
