As our Director of HR and OD, you'll play a pivotal role in nurturing a culture of inclusivity, innovation, and excellence. Our new Chief Executive, Abi Gbago is setting a strategic vision of collaboration, innovation and passion through the leadership team at Newham with innovation and dynamism at the heart of all we do. The top team have a deep-routed passion to improve the opportunities and tackling the inequalities for the residents of Newham, and we are seeking a new Director of HR&OD to collaborate across the organisation to make these improvements tangible, real and embedded within our workforce.

In 2014, the HR&OD service moved into a shared service arrangement through One Source and while some transactional services and legal services remain with One Source, HR and OD have been transferred back. This creates an exciting space for innovation to carve out the future of the HR&OD service at Newham and shape our workforce priorities.

With leadership first and foremost, you will be an inspiring leader to our talented HR and OD team, fostering a culture of continuous growth and learning, putting excellence at the heart of our professional advice and be the council’s senior lead to shape the future of our Workforce Strategyople are centric to delivering the best services to our residents, and the new Director of HR&OD will be pivotal in leading and shaping the culture to help our workforce drive our ambitions, and thrive in their employment - with wellbeing at the centre of everything!

You will have the opportunity to craft and execute innovative HR strategies to attract, develop, and retain top talent, developing and embedding a learning culture and leverage tools to develop people managers to make the right people and business decisions. You will need to roll your sleeves up and drive some of the organisational improvements to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and drive employee engagement through leaders.
