We’re looking for heroes of change to help build the council Thurrock deserves. An inclusive council devoted to improving the lives of residents and enabling and empowering its communities. One that holds itself accountable for its decisions and actions. Such ambition requires committed leaders who want to make change happen. Our ‘awakening’ provides an exciting opportunity to build something new, creating a council that inspires communities. We’re becoming leaner, more efficient and by working alongside our communities, we will empower them and shape services to meet their needs. We’re actively seeking newer, fresher, better ideas from bold and innovative leaders who want to rethink our future– how else will we reimagine public service in Thurrock? We have four leadership roles that sit right at the heart of our exciting transformation - to carve out and create a council of the future. We don’t think there’s a more exciting proposition in local government right now, to lead the way for councils to be genuine community leaders. That’s a legacy we can all be proud of.

We’re looking for a Chief Finance Officer (s151) to build financial sustainability in the organisation, setting us on a path that meets the short, medium and long-term financial pressures we face. We are seeking someone that will take responsibility for our finances, work closely with colleagues to build accountability and seize on opportunities to transform our financial future. We are looking for balanced innovation and someone that understands how to effect change in a Council. Given our recent history, this is a challenging, yet highly satisfying and important role that will be pivotal to our future and the lives of our residents.

You’ll be willing to take carefully measured risks to achieve budget changes and make savings, and draw on substantial experience and expertise to manage these risks. This will come from changing how the council operates, rather than cuts to each service. You will support us in finding ways to improve our income base and work closely with Members and colleagues to spot opportunities for transformation and efficiencies. At the same time, you’ll always have one eye on the future – looking for opportunities at every turn to build financial resilience and sustainability.
