We’ve transformed Islington, working closely with the community to ensure their voice and viewpoints are heard. And we’ve done it with a steely determination and relentless focus on tackling inequalities, including looking at ourselves as an organisation.

We haven’t always shouted about it: we don’t do this to win awards, but we have got on with the business of making radical and significant changes. We were the first council to set up a Fairness Commission, putting inequality in our borough under intense scrutiny. The Commission’s findings have underpinned our work for more than a decade, as we create a borough where everyone can thrive.

We have an ambitious corporate plan to continue to innovate and ensure our transformation is advanced. To achieve this change, we need a Chief Executive that will empower and continue to develop a dedicated workforce that will deliver that plan. It will be essential that the post holder creates cohesion and togetherness across the council and embodies the ambition for excellence we have for our residents, our people, and our future. The post holder will require significant senior leadership experience and be a visible leader who takes initiative and drives positive change within and beyond the  council, putting community power at the heart.

We know there are challenges ahead and our new Chief Executive will ensure that we continue to innovate and challenge conventional thinking in the pursuit of improved impact on outcomes for the residents and communities of Islington. We are actively shaping futures and changing outcomes together.
