The Council’s Corporate Business Support Service is offering an exciting opportunity for an organised and enthusiastic individual to join the Creditors team.

The team deal with a high volume and high value of payments, paying an array of creditors; from large corporations to local small businesses, vulnerable Adult and Children’s Social Care client groups to Ukraine refugee hosts. Tight controls are required to ensure financial regulations are upheld and audit trails are undisputable, to safeguard delegated authority and protect against fraud.

As the creditor team supports payments for the whole Authority, the role involves working closely with many other internal departments and external customers/suppliers.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Taking part in a duty rota, deal with all internal and external queries, largely through a shared mailbox, responding to some quite complex and sensitive matters.
  • Completing daily payment runs
  • Completing monthly CIS returns to HMRC
  • Setting up and maintaining creditor accounts, ensuring fraud prevention measures are implemented.
  • Indexing and processing invoices in accordance with financial regulations and procedures
  • Processing manual and emergency payments

Key skills required:

  • Knowledge of GDPR requirements.
  • Computer literate to a high degree, ability  to act as a ‘super user’ on bespoke financial systems.
  • Knowledge of financial policies and procedures, be accurate, numerate and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, even under pressure.
  • Ability to use initiative to respond effectively to changing priorities and work flexibly to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to draft correspondence.

The post holder will be part of a service that continues to develop and adapt working practices. You will have demonstrable ability to suggest improvements and be flexible, and responsive to change.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
