Because of this, we are concerned about two key elements of the announcement: the move of academies from local authority control, and the fact that academies will no longer be required to have parents sitting on their governing board.
Poverty cannot be ‘solved’ by one organisation but takes whole-system approaches that bring together the expertise and experiences of a vast range of stakeholders in an intelligent, joined-up approach.
Local systems change is vitally important to tackling poverty. However, without a supportive national system policy change, it could all come to nothing.
