World Sustainable Built Environment Conference to be held down under

In 2026 it is due to be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) following a successful bid from the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) in partnership with RMIT University.

The venue is a particularly good choice as it is a pioneering example of sustainable design. It was the first convention centre in the world to achieve a 6-star Green Star environmental rating and is one of only six convention centres globally to hold platinum certification.

Julia Swanson has expressed her excitement over the decision.

‘We are thrilled to bring the World Sustainable Built Environment Conference back to Melbourne,’ she said. ‘Our city has a long-standing tradition of hosting successful, sustainability-focused events that leave a lasting impact.’

Julia added: ‘Well-designed and resource-efficient infrastructure, such as our world-first 6-star Green Star-rated venue, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, is crucial for building more sustainable cities and hosting impactful business events.’

When it takes place, the conference is expected to attract over 1,000 delegates, including leading scientists, researchers, academics and practitioners from around the globe.
