Second time lucky: Building over 100 new homes in Stourport
Originally Miller Homes’ plans to build 145 properties on land off Areley Common were rejected by Malvern Hills and Wyre Forest councils, though proposals have now come back with full force.
Back in April, Miller Homes submitted an application to Wyre Forest District Council to construct 145 properties on green space near Astley Cross. However, after attracting more than 100 objections they were swiftly rejected. Some of the concerns included a lack of public transport and impacts the development could have on NHS services, dental practises and local schools.

Despite this, the organisation have implemented changes and now the plans are to be discussed at next week’s northern area planning meeting of Malvern Hills District Council. Some of the alterations include a new drainage strategy and out of the 145 new homes, 58 will be affordable.
The 58 properties will be comprised of six one-bedroom maisonettes (small flats), 12 one-bed houses, 18 three-bed houses and two four-bed houses.
Ahead of the meeting next week, planning officers said: ‘The development would be a high-quality detailed design that would reflect the semi-rural, peri-urban characteristics of its location and provide a transition between the open countryside to the south and the built development at Stourport.’
District planners are set to decide on the plans on 9th October 2024.
