Retail development approved as part of a Liverpool regeneration project

A proposed new retail development has been given a thumbs-up to replace the famous Kop Stand at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium.

Commercial property developers, Priority Space, have obtained planning permission for a parade of shops, restaurants, and takeaways on Walton Breck Road – neighbouring the famous football ground.

The new development will consist of nine units, with parking and is part of a wider regeneration initiative for the area around Anfield, led by Liverpool City Council. Potential occupiers of the proposed plans already include the Co-op, Heron Frozen Foods, Subway, Papa John’s pizza, Mother Hubbard Fish and Chips, and a beauty parlour with a tanning studio.

Against this backdrop, the new plans will create more than 15,200 square feet of retail accommodation on a vacant 0.75 acre plot of land between Venmore Street and Walton Breck Road.

The development will also include a 33-space car park including four accessible spaces plus 12 cycle spaces. Enquiries to buy or let remaining units at Walton Breck Road are being handled by Mason Partners and Carl Walls.

Director of Priority Space, Adam Richardson, said: ‘We’re proud to be delivering these new retail units to Anfield, as they form one small part of a much wider new vision to transform the urban landscape around the football ground.

‘High Street renewal is identified as a key priority in this scheme and we look forward to seeing these new shops play a key role in providing improved community facilities for local residents and football fans alike.’

Chair of Liverpool City Council’s Planning Committee, Cllr Tony Concepcion, said: ‘This is a welcome development bringing new life and jobs into the area.’

Following the approval, property developers are looking to begin construction work, with development expected to commence in September 2023 and complete by July 2024.
