Residents asked to help shape future of Knowle West

People in and around Knowle West and Filwood are being asked to have a say on a number of potential developments that could increase the amount of affordable housing and improve the local high street.

These developments are among several sites in South Bristol proposed for development by the Council to help meet demand for more affordable housing across the city.

Plans for the Filwood Broadway site include 30 affordable new homes and some community and commercial space on the site of the former cinema.

The council will also be asking for further feedback on plans for affordable homes on a small site located at Marshall Walk at the corner of Inns Court Avenue, in Knowle West.

Mayor of Bristol Marvin Rees said: ‘This is an exciting time for Knowle West, and we want the local community to be a big part of shaping the plans for improvements to the area.

‘New proposals for a housing development would deliver much needed affordable homes, while also making sure these properties are more energy efficient and contribute to our response to the climate emergency.

‘We recognise the scale of development taking place in the area and the concerns of residents regarding the cinema and other local facilities. But we have funding to help improve the High Street and we want local residents to help us decide the best way to spend this.

‘We will continue to engage with the community of Knowle West and would encourage anyone who lives or works in the area to take part in some of these engagement activities, as there is a real chance to make your mark on your local neighbourhood.’

The consultation will run for four weeks and started on 5 January.

In related news, £5m will be invested in improving the public spaces in two Leicester neighbourhoods over the next three years.
