Property developer, Godwin Developments has announced plans to redevelop the former Stafford Rugby Club ground into a major mixed-use scheme.
The £80m project includes a new 100-room hotel, 300 build-to-rent homes as well as retail and leisure space.
The site encompasses 300,000 sq ft of development, including 60,000 sq ft of leisure and retail space (with proposals for a multi-story carpark).
A spokesperson for the developer said that it hoped the venture would give local residents better amenities and attract visitors to the area, helping to boost its long-term economic prospects.
However, the developer did state that it was in ‘early-stage’ discussions with Staffordshire Borough Council regarding plans.
A £500 million scheme that could see a hotel, top of the range office space, and new homes in Stafford.
The development would form part of the ‘Stafford Station Gateway Masterplan’ which is a plan to develop land near to the railway station and has been planned on the back of HS2 which will see journey times to London cut to around 50 minutes from the county town.
Group development director & co-founder at Godwin Developments, Stuart Pratt, said: ‘Staffordshire is an important area of development focus for us as we see high growth potential in the region.
‘We believe that the Stafford Borough Council Regeneration Plan alongside the construction of HS2 and the Stafford Gateway Masterplan project will be key drivers to fast-track growth of the town, which is already shaping into a highly attractive investment proposition for developers and commuters alike.’
