A national property consultancy has obtained planning consent on behalf of an NHS trust to build a new diagnostic centre.
Carter Jonas have been awarded planning consent on behalf of Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham to build a new community diagnostic centre.
The 0.1ha site has been host to the Barking Community Hospital for over 100 years and during that time has seen various redevelopments and additions. This application is the latest addition to increase outpatient capacity.
Planning consent allows for provision of a community diagnostic centre, one of the 40 centres which were announced by the government in October 2021. It will provide clinical spaces for the use of cardiology/respiratory/pathology physiological measurement; MRU/CT control and procedure rooms.
This is a highly sustainable scheme which, it is expected, will achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ accreditation due to its energy efficiency PV panel installation, air source heat pumps and use of Modern Methods of Construction – this not only reduces carbon emissions in construction but also enables the new hospital to be delivered exceptionally fast.
It is anticipated that the new development will be ready for use by December.
‘Carter Jonas was extremely pleased to be able to assist the Trust in achieving planning consent for this important new development which will very quickly and efficiently address a real need,’ Charlotte Hutchison, associate partner at Carter Jonas, said: ‘Furthermore, it’s great that despite the rapid timeframe, the scheme can be delivered to such high sustainability standards.’
Vikki Butler, director of clinical reconfiguration at Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: ‘We are delighted that this development has been supported as it will enable residents of Barking to access locally based diagnostic services. This modern construction will add to and enhance facilities on the Barking Community Hospital site.’
