New affordable homes constructed to honour British Army regiments

An award-winning housing provider has teamed up with local authorities to celebrate the recent completion of a new housing development built on a historic site.

Located in Liverpool, One Vision Housing – an award-winning housing provider – and Sefton Council gathered in ‘Kings Park’ which has just seen the completion of 21 new high-quality affordable homes.

Funded by Homes England, an executive non-departmental government public body, the ‘Kings Park’ project received a £945K grant. The site is made up of 16 two- and three-bedroom homes and five two-bedroom bungalows for residents aged over 55 in the Sefton area.

Built on a former 19th century Army Barracks, known as The Kings Regiment Liverpool HQ Barracks, Sovini Construction – the organisation that constructed the homes – felt it was right to name the estate ‘Kings Park’.

Upon the sites completion, members from Sefton Council and One Vision housing have been joined by local war veterans to celebrate the homes and unveil a plaque to honour the sites history.

Originally, the site was home to The Royal Garrison Artillery and The Royal Field Artillery which were both military units within the British Army.

In addition to dedicating the new homes to honouring the British army history, Sovini too a ‘fabric first’ approach, which is in line with the group’s net-zero carbon commitment.

Fabric-first involves maximising the performance of components and materials selected during construction, aiming to reduce energy consumption, such as thermal efficiency and running costs.

Environmentally efficient specifications can be seen across the new homes, from low carbon heating and sustainable drainage systems to smart meters and charging points for electric vehicles.

The Sovini Group’s Managing Director of Housing, Ian Mitchell, said: ‘We were honoured to commemorate the Kings Regiment and Royal Artillery at our Kings Park development and are thankful to the veterans and Sefton council who support our vision of a better future.

‘This new scheme has enabled us to create opportunities and change lives for local people, through affordable quality rental properties.’
