Just 10 affordable homes so far in Goole site ‘as big as 50 football pitches’

Beal Homes has submitted plans for the first phase of a development which will eventually see 800 homes built in Goole.

However, just 10 affordable homes are mooted for the first phase which concerns around 200 new properties.

The site, which covers an area equivalent to almost 50 football pitches, is expected to make a major contribution to the requirements of the East Riding Local Plan for the delivery of almost 2,000 new homes to be built in Goole up to 2029, if approved.

Beal say the development will secure the employment of almost 2,500 people and will be worth over £130m once it’s completed, which they estimate will take 15 years.

Beal Homes chief executive Richard Beal said: We see Goole as an up-and-coming area enjoying substantial investment and economic growth. That stimulus is creating significant demand for high-quality new homes that this development aims to meet.’

Siemens announced the go-ahead for a new factory to be built in Goole last November, having secured a £1.5bn contract from Transport for London to design and build trains for the London Underground.

It is hoped the facility will create 700 skilled engineering and manufacturing jobs, plus an additional 250 jobs during the construction phase and 1,700 more in the UK supply chain, with Mr Beal saying the housebuilders are hoping to capitalise on the new workforce.

‘New highly-skilled jobs and business opportunities are coming to Goole and we’re providing the high-quality, contemporary homes needed for local families and people attracted to the area,’ he said.
