Housing provider accredited for supporting abuse survivors

A leading social housing provider, known as Stonewater, has been awarded accreditation from the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA).

Inspectors praised the organisation’s work with councils, police and safeguarding teams. Staff were also recognised for their compassionate approach and clear procedures that provide consistent support.

To give context, in February, Brighton and Hove City Council reported that almost 600 survivors of domestic abuse received support in the city and surrounding areas during 2024/25.

Stonewater runs six refuge centres across England, in Brighton and Hove, Swindon, Bedfordshire, Bedford, South Hampshire and Herefordshire, alongside providing safe homes.

Nicola Lambe, Head of Specialist Services at Stonewater, said: ‘We are incredibly proud to have achieved DAHA accreditation, which recognises the quality and impact of our support for survivors of domestic abuse.

‘This achievement is a testament to the compassion and professionalism of our teams, in addition to the strength of our ongoing partnership with agencies and specialist services.

‘We are passionate about supporting individuals and families, and committed to building on this work, further bolstering our services and ensuring every survivor receives the support and safe housing they deserve.’

The accreditation follows a previous award from Leading Lights, an organisation run by the charity SafeLives.

Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show in the year ending March 2025, an estimated 3.8 million people aged over 16 in England and Wales experienced domestic abuse. Of these, 2.2 million were women and 1.5 million were men.

Police recorded 816,493 domestic abuse-related crimes over the same period, with emotional abuse as the most common type.
