Adult Education Hub welcomes first learners in Brighton

Brighton & Hove’s new Adult Education Hub has opened, offering local residents opportunities to gain valuable new skills, boost their career prospects and improve wellbeing.

The new hub, located in Ivory Place, Brighton, will deliver the Council’s adult learning provision, which is tailored to suit the city’s current needs.

A wide range of day or evening classes and workshops are on offer, both online and face-to-face, and enrolment is open now for both autumn and winter terms.

Courses help local people gain work and employability skills, including IT and digital, as well as English, Maths and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Most courses are free or low-cost for residents aged 19+, and all courses are free for people who are unemployed or on a low income, earning less than £17,004.

Cllr Hannah Clare, chair of the Children, Young People and Skills Committee, said: ‘The new hub is a home for the city’s adult learning provision, supporting local people to improve life and work opportunities, as well as their health & wellbeing. Our adult learning programme is carefully targeted to meet the current needs of local people and we’re working with our communities, local enterprise partners and other key stakeholders to ensure learning opportunities reach those who need it most.

‘Whether you are unemployed, have been made redundant due to the pandemic or looking for a career change, an adult learning course could help you achieve your goals. We look forward to welcoming you to our new Adult Education Hub – either in person or online – and hope you find a course that inspires and supports you to reskill, refresh and restart your learning.’

The Autumn term began this week, and the full course guide can be accessed here.

In related news, a new skills centre is set to open after the summer in Stockbridge, offering local young people who struggle with school the chance to gain construction qualifications and hands on experience.
