A scare is born: Lotherton promises new Halloween experience

This October Leeds City Council are inviting thrill seekers to step into the pages of twisted fairy tales where ‘happily ever afters’ cease to exist.

2024 has been one hell of a scary year. The costs of homes and rent are enough to give people in England a fright. However, if you’re looking to escape from the terrifying woes of reality, Leeds City Council have launched a new immersive experience for families just in time for Halloween.

The event is otherwise known as ‘Once Upon a Nightmare’ and it is due to take place at Lotherton Hall, where the grounds will be infected with the skeletons of haunted fairy tale characters living out their darkest versions of reality.

Some of the characters include a Snow White shadowed by a fateful curse and a wary Little Red Riding Hood with the wolf always ready to pounce.

Running from 25th–31st October, visitors can expect a walk through the misty grounds, guided only by the glow of lanterns.

‘Whether you’re a fan of fairy tales or just enjoy a good scare, this event promises to be an unforgettable experience,’ Cllr Salma Arif, Leeds City Council’s executive member for adult social care, active lifestyles and culture., said. ‘It’s a spooky event but it’s all been planned with young people in mind, so it’s a perfect way for the family to experience a thrilling Halloween together.’

Cllr Arif continued: ‘Once Upon a Nightmare’ is delivered by Breeze at Lotherton, both part of Leeds City Council. It is not suitable for children under eight or those easily scared.’

Tickets to the Lotherton scarefest  can be found here.

Meanwhile, Lotherton is also set to host it’s first ever pumpkin patch from 4th October. Here, visitors can book tractor rides and choose a pumpkin (or several) to take home and carve.
