The West Midlands Rail Executive (WMRE) is the devolved body with responsibility for working with the rail industry and local authority partners to deliver better rail services in the West Midlands. We jointly manage the West Midlands Rail Franchise with the Department for Transport and actively support the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and other strategic bodies with their ambitious development agendas. Our area covers the wider West Midlands Region and we are accountable to the 14 local authorities who are full members of the WMRE Board.
Building for Brent
The London Borough of Brent doesn’t hold back when it comes to placemaking. We reside in a state of the art Civic Centre in Wembley, next to the iconic Wembley stadium and in one of the fastest developing areas in London. Our redevelopment of South Kilburn estate is an exemplar of how estate redevelopment should be delivered. There is however so much more to be done. The housing crisis has hit us hard and the lack of social housing for those who need it is no longer acceptable. This is why we have set a target to deliver 5000 truly affordable homes in the borough over the next 5 years, 1000 of which will be delivered directly by the Council. We have already secured the budget to fund these, backed by funding from the GLA.
