Principal Planning Officer

Opportunities within the Planning and Development Department at Birmingham City Council

Birmingham is changing….and fast! The second city is booming with a whole range of ambitious new development and regeneration initiatives. Are you interested in helping to shape our city for future generations?

We are looking to appoint to a number of planning roles within the Planning and Development department. You will be working for one of the country’s largest planning authorities within a can-do Directorate that combines a range of service areas; all co-located in modern offices in the city centre.

Private Sector Standards Officer

The post holder will work within the Private Sector Housing Team and will mainly be seeking to identify Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO’s) and ensuring that rented property (both private and social) are being let at the appropriate standard. The post holder will primarily be undertaking the following tasks:-

• Identifying HMOs that the Council is not currently aware of
• Taking enforcement action when necessary
• Following up complaints about conditions in private and social rented properties
• Proactively assess the condition of stock across the District Council area

Engagement and Support Officer

Principal Solicitor Planning

We wish to recruit an experienced Principal Solicitor/Lawyer who will play an integral role in delivering the Council’s Growth Strategy, which includes ensuring the Council’s objectives in relation to regeneration are delivered to a high standard and in a timely manner. You will be a confident and self-assured Planning Solicitor/Lawyer with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Group Engineer – Highways (Highways Development Management)

We are looking for a Group Engineer with a focus on Highways Development Management. You will demonstrate an interest in finding solutions to complex engineering problems by adapting recognised approaches and applying appropriate techniques.

Flood and Drainage Manager

The Council is seeking an experienced and versatile Flood and Drainage Manager to lead a small team to deliver all aspects of the management of local flood risk.
